Catheter treatment for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy: for seniors only?
نویسنده
چکیده
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a relatively recent concept. It occurs not infrequently; 1 in 500 individuals within the general population is a carrier of the disease.1 The main genes responsible for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy have been characterized and can be determined with relative ease.2 Some patients develop subaortic obstruction. The original term, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, dates to 1964;3 since then, it has become obvious that the obstructive component has its own prognostic meaning. The obstruction occurs in 25% of all humans with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,4 and the entity is now called hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.

Percutaneous radiofrequency septal reduction for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy in children.
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) in the treatment of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy in children. BACKGROUND Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy is an uncommon cause of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction in children. In symptomatic patients, open heart surgical myectomy has hitherto been the only therape...

AIMS To evaluate acute and long-term symptomatic, haemodynamic (at rest and during exercise) and electrophysiological results of transcoronary ablation of septal hypertrophy (TASH), a catheter interventional treatment for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. METHODS AND RESULTS Sixty-two transcoronary ablations of septal hypertrophy were performed by injection of 4.6+/-2.6 ml 96% ethanol ...

Interventional treatment of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy has considerably developed and primary surgical approach is nowadays considered for a minority of patients with insufficient relief of obstruction following catheter intervention. We present the history of a patient who underwent alcohol ablation and developed a life-threatening ventricular septal defect consecutively to a larg...
متن کاملTransluminal percutaneous septal myocardial ablation in a patient with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
Reduction of septal mass by inducing septal infarction using catheter techniques is a new therapy for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). We report a case of severe HOCM that was dramatically improved by this non-surgical treatment. A 60-year-old woman with HOCM had suffered dyspnea (NYHA class III) with syncopal attack despite medical treatment. Left heart catheterization showed a ...
متن کاملConcomitant ablation for atrial fibrillation during septal myectomy in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
OBJECTIVE The appearance of atrial fibrillation is associated with significant clinical deterioration in patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; therefore, maintenance of sinus rhythm is desirable. Guidelines and most articles have reported the results of catheter ablation and pharmacologic atrial fibrillation treatment; nevertheless, data regarding concomitant procedures during ...
